Classifieds sites in Belarus
The Belarusian market is fairly centralised, with a few giant platforms dominating online sales. In Belarus most sites are in Russian, and prices are often shown in Belarusian roubles (BYN), but sometimes also in dollars (as a reference).
General classifieds sites
- Kufar.by: It’s Belarus’s undisputed “OLX”. It’s by far the most popular platform, where you’ll find anything: from phones and clothes to flats and services. It has a modern interface and a fairly strict user verification system.
- Onliner.by: Onliner is the country’s biggest tech portal, and its classifieds section (Baraholka) is the favourite place for people selling electronics, gadgets and PC components. It’s known for its very active community.
- Doska.by: A classic classifieds site with a simpler (retro-style) interface, but still widely used for quick sales in various categories, including machinery and industrial products.
Car sales sites
In Belarus the car market is extremely developed, being an important transit point for cars in the region.
- AV.by: The undisputed leader of the car market. If you want to buy or sell a car in Belarus, this is the first place to look. It has the most advanced filters, price history and a huge database of listings, including trucks and motorbikes.
- Abw.by: AV.by’s main competitor. It’s a complete car portal offering, besides listings, car news, test drives and technical advice. It’s highly appreciated for the accuracy of the technical details in its listings.
- Autobaraholka (Onliner Auto): The car section of the Onliner portal. Private individuals prefer it for its transparency and its very clean, easy-to-navigate interface. It’s the ideal place to find cars maintained by private owners.
💡 Useful tips for Belarus:
- Limba: All these sites are in Russian. If you don’t speak it, I recommend using your browser’s automatic translation (Google Translate in Chrome).
- Prices: Although the official price is in BYN, Belarusians often negotiate based on the US dollar (USD) exchange rate.
- Verificarea: On Belarusian car sites (especially AV.by), VIN checks are often shown directly in the listing, which gives you extra peace of mind.

Classifieds sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The online market in Bosnia and Herzegovina is highly concentrated, with one dominant player that is practically synonymous with “classifieds”. Still, there are alternatives worth exploring, especially for niche markets.
General classifieds sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina
- OLX.ba: It is, without any exaggeration, the “king” of the internet in Bosnia. Formerly known as Pik.ba, this site is used by everyone. You’ll find anything here, from real estate to collectibles, and its seller rating system is very well developed.
- MojTrg.ba: Part of a regional network present in several Balkan countries. Although it doesn’t have OLX’s volume, it’s a good alternative for property ads and household goods, with a clean, easy-to-navigate interface.
- Market.ba: One of the oldest classifieds sites in the country. Although it looks more utilitarian and less modern, it’s still used for quick ads and local services.
Car sales sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina
In Bosnia the car market is extremely active, and most platforms let you filter cars by whether import duties have been paid or not (very important there).
- OLX.ba (Vozila): Although it’s a section of the general site, it’s so dominant that most car dealers and private individuals post exclusively here. It has the most advanced search filters in the region.
- Autopijaca.ba: A portal dedicated exclusively to the car market. It’s very useful for finding offers from car lots (dealers) and often provides news and information about customs regulations for importing cars.
- Auto.ba: A specialised platform that combines buy/sell listings with car tests and industry news. A good place to compare prices and see local market trends.
💡 Important information for Bosnia and Herzegovina:
- Moneda: The national currency is the Convertible Mark (BAM), locally abbreviated as KM. The rate is pegged to the euro (1 EUR ≈ 1.95 KM).
- Registration: Watch out for listings that mention “Tek registrovan” (freshly registered) or “Plaćeno do registracije” (import duties paid, but the car isn’t yet registered on Bosnian plates).
- Limba: The sites are in Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian. If you come across technical terms you don’t understand (e.g. “zamjena” means “swap”), I can help with the translation.

Classifieds sites in the Czech Republic
The Czech market is extremely well structured and dominated by a few very strong local players. Unlike in other countries, in the Czech Republic Google has a formidable local competitor called Seznam, which also owns most of the big classifieds platforms.
General classifieds sites in the Czech Republic
- Bazos.cz: The most popular free classifieds site in the Czech Republic and the closest equivalent to OLX. It has a very simple (retro-style) interface, but the volume of ads is huge. It’s private individuals’ favourite place for everything from electronics to furniture.
- Sbazar.cz: The official platform of the Seznam portal. It’s visually much more modern than Bazos and very well integrated with other local services. It’s very safe and offers excellent category navigation.
- Aukro.cz: Although it works as an auction site (eBay-style), it’s also widely used for fixed-price sales. It’s considered a very safe site for collectibles, jewellery or expensive electronics thanks to its buyer protection system.
Car sales sites in the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is the “homeland” of Škoda, so you’ll find an incredible selection of this brand, as well as the rest of the VAG group (VW, Audi, Seat).
- Sauto.cz: The absolute leader of the Czech car market. If a car is for sale in the Czech Republic, there’s a 99% chance it’s listed here. The interface is very professional, with detailed filters and quality photos.
- TipCars.com: One of the oldest and most respected car portals. Connoisseurs and dealers prefer it for its very rich technical database. It’s excellent for comparing prices from small and large dealers.
- AAAAuto.cz: The website of the largest used-car dealer in Central Europe. Although it’s a single seller (not a platform open to anyone), they have thousands of cars in stock, offer a warranty and can bring the car to any of their branches.
💡 Useful tips for the Czech Republic:
- Moneda: The national currency is the Czech koruna (CZK). (Roughly 25 CZK ≈ 1 EUR). Most prices are shown in CZK, although car dealers often accept euros too.
- Verificarea Cebia: Instead of CarVertical, in the Czech Republic the gold standard for checking a car’s history (damage, mileage) is Cebia. If the car has a 5-star Cebia certificate, that’s an excellent sign.
- Logging in with Seznam: Many Czech sites let you log in quickly with a Seznam.cz account (if you have one), similar to how we use a Google account.
- Watch out for “Bazar”: In Czech, the word for second-hand car lots is Autobazar.
Classifieds sites in Cyprus
The Cypriot market is unusual, heavily influenced by its ties to the UK and by the fact that people drive on the left. One player dominates the market almost entirely, but there are also a few very useful niche alternatives.
General classifieds sites (OLX-style)
- Bazaraki.com: It’s Cyprus’s “OLX”, but much more influential. It’s by far the most popular platform for everything: real estate, jobs, services and second-hand items. The interface is modern, available in English and Greek, and has a very active messaging system.
- Aggelies24.com.cy: A traditional classifieds site, very popular with the local Greek-speaking community. It’s a good alternative for finding lower prices than on Bazaraki, where competition is higher.
- Offer.com.cy: A newer platform with a clean design that tries to attract users through simple ad posting. Useful for electronics and consumer goods.
Car sales sites
Cyprus has a special car market; you’ll find lots of cars imported directly from Japan (high quality) or the UK.
- Bazaraki (Cars & Vehicles): Although it’s a general site, its car section is so huge that 80–90% of car transactions in Cyprus happen here. The filters are very good and most big dealers list their stock here.
- Autotrader.com.cy: A portal dedicated exclusively to cars. Professional dealers and people looking for new or nearly new cars prefer it, as it has very rigorous technical descriptions.
- SellaCar.com.cy: A specialised platform focused on ease of selling. A good place to find cars from private owners (expats or locals) who want to sell quickly.
💡 Essential tips for the Cypriot market:
- Right-hand drive: The most important point! In Cyprus people drive on the left, so 99% of cars are right-hand drive. If you want to bring a car to Romania, you’ll need to factor in the costs and the rules for type approval.
- Limba: Almost all sites have an Englishversion, as Cyprus has a huge international community.
- Imports from Japan: You’ll see lots of “Japan Import” cars. These are usually very well maintained and have better equipment than European ones.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- Duty Paid / VAT Paid: In the ads, check that customs duties have been paid, especially for cars recently brought in from outside the EU (the UK after Brexit, or Japan).
Classifieds sites in Croatia
In Croatia the classifieds market is very well developed, and since the switch to the euro in 2023, cross-border transactions have become even simpler. There’s a clear leader (Njuškalo), but also excellent alternatives, especially for those who want to avoid listing fees.
Here are my recommendations for Croatia in 2025:
Classifieds sites in Croatia
- Njuškalo.hr: It’s Croatia’s “OLX” and the most visited e-commerce site in the country. A massive platform where you’ll find anything, from real estate to collectibles. The interface is modern and the mobile app is excellent.
- Index Oglasi: Njuškalo’s main competitor, with one huge advantage: posting ads is completely free for private individuals in most categories. That’s why it’s very popular for quick sales and bargains.
- Oglasnik.hr: A long-standing brand in Croatia (formerly “Plavi oglasnik”). Although it looks more traditional, it remains a very reliable source, widely used for jobs, services and ads in and around Zagreb.
Car sales sites in Croatia
In Croatia the car market values transparency, and specialist sites provide very clear technical details.
- Njuškalo Auto: Njuškalo’s car section is where most cars in the country are listed. Most official dealers and car lots keep their inventory here. It’s the benchmark for market prices.
- Neostar.com: Probably the most innovative car platform in the region. Neostar focuses on verified cars. Many of the vehicles listed here come with 60-point inspection reports and the option of buying the car online with a warranty.
- Index Oglasi – Auto: As mentioned, since it’s free, this site is full of ads from private individuals. If you’re looking for a car directly from the owner (no middlemen), this is where you should dig.
💡 Useful information for Croatia
- Moneda: Since 2023, Croatia has officially used the Euro (EUR). There’s no more need to convert from kuna, which makes comparing prices with the Romanian market much easier.
- Verificarea Istoricului: For cars registered in Croatia, you can use the services on the website of HAK (the Croatian Automobile Club) for information on roadside assistance and traffic rules.
- Limba: Although the sites are in Croatian, most younger sellers and dealers speak excellent English, so communication shouldn’t be a barrier.
- Key car terms:
- Rabljena vozila = Used vehicles (second-hand)
- Uvoz = Import (cars brought in from Germany/Belgium etc.)
- Prvi vlasnik = First owner
- Servisna knjiga = Service book
Classifieds sites in Denmark
The Danish market is one of the cleanest and safest, but also one of the most expensive in Europe (because of huge registration taxes). In 2025 digitalisation is at its peak, with most platforms integrated with the national identification system MitID.
Here are my recommendations for Denmark:
General classifieds sites in Denmark
- DBA.dk (Den Blå Avis): The “king” of classifieds in Denmark. It used to be owned by eBay and works exactly like a mix of OLX and eBay. It’s where you’ll find anything, from bicycles to Nordic design furniture. MitID verification of sellers is very common here, adding extra safety.
- GulogGratis.dk: The name translates as “Yellow and Free”. It’s the second most popular general classifieds site. Although its interface is a bit more traditional, it’s widely used outside Copenhagen and for home and garden items.
- Vinted.dk: In October 2024 Vinted absorbed the biggest local fashion platform, Trendsales. So in 2025 Vinted is the main destination for clothes, accessories and lifestyle items in Denmark.
Car sales sites in Denmark
Denmark has a unique car market: cars are very expensive because of environmental taxes, but they are extremely well maintained.
- Bilbasen.dk: The biggest and most important car platform. Here you’ll find the largest volume of listings, both from dealers and private individuals. The filters are excellent and include details about annual taxes (“grøn ejerafgift”).
- AutoUncle.dk: An aggregator platform that scans all car sites in Denmark and rates the price of each car (it tells you whether the price is “Super”, “Good” or “Expensive” compared to the market). It’s the Danes’ favourite tool for negotiating.
- Biltorvet.dk: A solid portal, widely used by authorised dealers. A very safe source if you’re looking for cars with a warranty or newer models (especially electric ones, which dominate the Danish market in 2025).
💡 Essential tips for Denmark:
- Moneda: The currency used is the Danish krone (DKK). The rate is roughly 1 DKK ≈ 0.68 RON (or 7.45 DKK to 1 EUR).
- Checking for debt (Bilbogen): In Denmark, debts (liens) follow the car, not the owner. Before buying, check the chassis number or registration number on sites such as TjekBil.dk or directly in the official register Bilbogen to make sure the car has no bank mortgages.
- Registration tax (Registreringsafgift): If you see prices that seem too low, check whether the ad mentions “Export” or “Uden afgift” (without tax). The price of a car with Danish taxes paid is often double that in the rest of Europe.
- MitID: Many private sellers have a “NemID/MitID valideret” profile. Buy from them first, as their identity has been verified through the government system.
Classifieds sites in Switzerland
The Swiss market is one of the most exclusive and well regulated in the world. Second-hand goods here are usually of very high quality, but prices reflect that too. Most major platforms are now grouped under the umbrella of Swiss Marketplace Group (SMG).
General classifieds sites in Switzerland
- Anibis.ch: Probably the closest equivalent to OLX. It’s extremely popular across the country, especially in the French- and German-speaking regions. You’ll find anything, from real estate to household items, and posting ads is generally free.
- Tutti.ch: Anibis’s main rival. It has a very clean interface and is widely used for electronics, furniture and children’s items. It’s private individuals’ favourite platform for quick sales in local communities.
- Ricardo.ch: Switzerland’s “eBay”. It works both as an auction site and with fixed prices. It’s considered the safest site because user verification is very strict and the rating system is essential for transactions. Note: selling fees apply here, so prices may be slightly higher.
Car sales sites in Switzerland
Swiss cars are renowned for impeccable maintenance and superior equipment.
- AutoScout24.ch: The undisputed market leader. If a car is for sale in Switzerland (whether from a dealer or a private seller), it’s almost certainly here. It has the most advanced filters and a huge database.
- CarForYou.ch: A more modern platform with a strong focus on transparency. It has its own price-rating system (it tells you whether the offer is fair) and focuses on a simplified user experience with high-resolution photos.
- Comparis.ch (Car section): Comparis is actually an aggregator. It scans all the big car sites in Switzerland and shows you the results in one place, also giving each a grade (from C to A+) depending on how good the price is compared to market value.
💡 Essential tips for the Swiss market
- Limba: The sites may be displayed in German, French or Italian. Many also have an option for English, given the large number of expats.
- Moneda: Only the Swiss franc (CHF)is used. In 2025 it’s often close to 1:1 with the euro, but check the exchange rate before the transaction.
- “Ab MFK”: This is the most important term in car ads. It means the car has recently passed the mandatory technical inspection (very rigorous in Switzerland). A car sold “ab MFK” is guaranteed to be in excellent technical condition.
- Vigneta: If you buy a car from Switzerland, check that it has the motorway vignette for the current year (a sticker on the windscreen, although an electronic version was introduced in 2024). It costs 40 CHF.
- Exportul: If you want to bring the car to Romania, remember that Switzerland is not in the EU. You’ll have to pay customs duties and VAT when entering the European Union (at customs in Germany, Austria or directly in Romania).
Classifieds sites in Estonia
Estonia is one of the most digitalised countries in the world, and this shows in how its classifieds sites work. In 2025 the market is very mature, with fast, secure platforms that are often integrated with digital identity systems (Smart-ID).
Here are my recommendations for Estonia:
General classifieds sites in Estonia
There’s no OLX in Estonia under that name, but three local platforms have dominated the market for years:
- Okidoki.ee: The most popular free classifieds site, very similar to OLX. It has a huge range of categories: from clothes and electronics to services and real estate. The interface is available in Estonian, Russian and English.
- Soov.ee: A very strong competitor to Okidoki. A classic, very well organised classifieds portal, preferred by many for its simplicity. The ideal place to find household items or tools.
- Kuldnebors.ee (Kuldne Börs): One of the oldest and most respected classifieds brands in Estonia (originally a printed publication). It’s heavily used for serious ads in agriculture, construction and machinery, but covers all general categories.
Car sales sites in Estonia
If you want to buy a car from Estonia, you should know that the market here is almost entirely centralised on one main site, followed by a few modern alternatives.
- Auto24.ee: It’s the absolute leader. If a car is for sale in Estonia, there’s a 95% chance it’s here. It’s an extremely capable site, with thousands of filters and direct integration with the vehicle register database (Transpordiamet).
- Autoportaal.ee: The main alternative to Auto24. It has a more modern design and is often preferred by new dealers for promoting special offers.
- 4auto.ee: A newer platform that allows free car ads, becoming popular with private sellers looking for an alternative to Auto24’s fees.
💡 Essential tips for Estonia:
- Checking the history (Transpordiamet): In Estonia you can check any car’s history for free and officially on the website of Transpordiamet using just the registration number or the VIN. You’ll see the inspection history (Tehnoülevaatus), the reported mileage and whether the car has been in accidents.
- Limba: Although Estonian is the official language, almost all these sites have full versions in English and Russian, which makes them very easy for foreigners to use.
- Digital identity: Estonians use Smart-ID or Mobile-ID to log in. As a visitor you can browse freely, but if you want to contact certain professional sellers you may need a verified account.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- Condition of the cars: Because of the long winters and the salt on the roads, always check for rust on older cars bought from Estonia.
Classifieds sites in Finland
In Finland the classifieds market is extremely well regulated and safe, dominated by a few portals that belong to big media groups (such as Schibsted or Sanoma). In 2025, almost all major transactions between private individuals are secured by bank identification systems.
Here are my recommendations for Finland:
1. General classifieds sites (OLX-style)
- Tori.fi: The most popular classifieds site in Finland. It works exactly like OLX or Blocket (Sweden), with millions of visitors a month. It’s the main place where Finns sell furniture, clothes, electronics and even cars or homes. The interface is simple and very efficient.
- Huuto.net: Although it started as an auction site (eBay-style), it’s now heavily used for fixed-price sales too. It’s considered a very safe platform, with a user feedback system that quickly weeds out fraud attempts.
- Oikotie.fi: A giant portal focused on “the big things”. Although it has a general classifieds section, it’s the market leader for real estate and jobs. If you’re looking for a rental or a house in Finland, this is the first place to look.
2. Car sales sites
Finland has very high maintenance standards, and car histories are completely transparent and easy to check.
- Nettiauto.com: The biggest and most important car site in the country. Here you’ll find the largest volume of listings, from family cars to commercial vehicles. The filters are extremely detailed, letting you search for parking heaters (Webasto), an essential feature in Finland.
- Autotie.fi: A highly respected portal that works closely with authorised dealers. The ideal place if you’re looking for cars with a warranty or used vehicles that have passed rigorous inspections by professionals.
- Oikotie Autot: The car section of the Oikotie portal. It’s very popular for its transparency and the way it presents maintenance costs and annual taxes for each model.
💡 Essential tips for the Finnish market:
- Checking the history (Traficom): Finland has one of the most open vehicle data systems. You can check the current owner, accident history and real mileage by sending a text message with the registration number to the data services of Traficom (it costs a few euros, but it’s worth every cent).
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- Limba: The sites are in Finnish and sometimes Swedish. However, most Finns speak excellent English, so you can message sellers in English without any problems.
- Winter equipment: When looking at cars in Finland, check whether they have two sets of wheels (summer and winter, usually studded) and a “Lohkolämmitin” (engine block heater), both standard there.
- Useful terms:
- Myydään = For sale
- Ostetaan = Wanted (buying)
- Katsastettu = Inspection done
- Huoltokirja = Service book
Classifieds sites in France
In France the classifieds market is dominated by one huge name, but for cars and niche products there are specialised platforms that offer much more safety and technical detail.
Here are my recommendations for France in 2025:
1. General classifieds sites (OLX-style)
- Leboncoin.fr: It’s France’s “OLX” and one of the most visited sites in the country. It’s absolutely huge and covers every category (real estate, cars, jobs, clothes). It has a very secure integrated payment and delivery system, making it the go-to place for every French person.
- ParuVendu.fr: The second-largest general classifieds site. It’s very popular for property and car ads, with a somewhat more traditional interface but a very large user base.
- Gens de Confiance: A more exclusive platform based on a referral system (you need “sponsors” to join). It’s considered the safest platform in France, almost completely eliminating the risk of fraud.
2. Car sales sites
France has a very strict car market, where a car’s history is almost transparent thanks to government systems.
- LaCentrale.fr: The market leader for used cars. Recently acquired by the OLX group, it focuses on higher-value vehicles and offers mechanical warranties. It’s where you’ll find the most detailed listings from professional dealers.
- AutoScout24.fr: A massive European portal, widely used in France for comparing prices internationally. It’s excellent for finding low-mileage used cars.
- L’Argus (Annonces): Argus is the authority in France for car valuations. Their classifieds section is highly respected, and the prices listed here are usually the fairest in relation to real market value.
💡 Essential tips for the French market:
- HistoVec: Before buying a French car, ask the seller for the HistoVec. It’s a free government service that shows the car’s full history (accidents, previous owners, mileage at each technical inspection).
- Contrôle Technique (CT): To sell a car older than 4 years, the seller is legally required to provide a technical inspection (CT) certificate less than 6 months old.
- Certificat de non-gage: The document certifying that the car has no outstanding debts or seizures. Any serious seller must provide it.
- Paiement sécurisé Leboncoin: If you buy small items through Leboncoin, use their payment system. The money is held in escrow and released to the seller only after you confirm you’ve received the parcel.
- Limba: Although the French are proud of their language, most big car dealers have English-speaking staff.
Classifieds sites in Germany
The German market is the largest and most varied in Europe, and the main destination for Romanians looking for quality cars or goods. In 2025 processes are extremely well digitalised and transaction security is a priority.
Here are my recommendations for Germany:
Classifieds sites in Germany
- Kleinanzeigen.de: It’s Germany’s ultimate “OLX”. Until recently it was called eBay Kleinanzeigen. It’s where you’ll find absolutely anything, from flats and jobs to electronics and furniture. It has a secure payment system called “Sicher bezahlen”.
- Quoka.de: One of the oldest and most respected classifieds sites. It’s widely used for regional sales and is an excellent alternative to Kleinanzeigen for finding bargains from private individuals who don’t want to use very crowded platforms.
- Vinted.de: Although it focuses on clothes, in Germany (where it absorbed the brands Kleiderkreisel and Mamikreisel) it has become a huge force for everything fashion, accessories and children’s items, with a very solid rating and buyer protection system.
Car sales sites in Germany
Germany has the biggest car portals in the world, with thousands of new cars added every hour.
- Mobile.de: The biggest car site in Germany and one of the biggest in the world. You’ll find everything here, from 500-euro cars to multi-million supercars. The interface is also available in Romanian, which makes it extremely accessible.
- AutoScout24.de: Mobile.de’s main rival. It has a very modern interface and an excellent price-rating algorithm (it tells you whether a car is below or above market price). It also supports several languages, including Romanian.
- Heycar.de: A newer platform focused exclusively on quality. Here you’ll only find cars from authorised dealers, at most 8 years old, under 150,000 km and always with a warranty. The ideal place if you want to avoid any technical risk.
💡 Essential tips for the German market:
- HU/AU (TÜV): In car ads, look for “HU/AU neu”. This means the car has recently passed the rigorous technical inspection (TÜV), valid for 2 years.
- Scheckheftgepflegt: A key term meaning the car’s service history is up to date (all services done on time and recorded in the service book).
- Limba: Although the big sites have a Romanian translation, to communicate with private German sellers it’s best to use English or German. Big dealers often have Romanian- or Russian-speaking staff.
- Exportul: If you buy a car to bring to Romania, you’ll need export plates (with a red stripe) or temporary plates (with a yellow stripe – only if the car has a valid TÜV).
- Negocierea: At dealers (Autohaus), the room for negotiation is usually small (a few hundred euros), but you can often get a set of winter tyres or a free service included in the price.
Classifieds sites in Greece
In Greece the classifieds market is very well developed, but with one peculiarity: a single site has become so big that it dominates almost every category, from cars to real estate and small items.
Here are my recommendations for classifieds in Greece:
General classifieds sites in Greece
- Car.gr: Don’t be fooled by the name! Although it started as a car site, today it’s the biggest marketplace in Greece. It has huge sections for almost anything: boats, real estate, clothes, electronics and even agricultural products. It’s practically Greece’s national “OLX”.
- Xe.gr (Xrisi Efkeria): It means “Golden Opportunity” and is the country’s long-standing classifieds brand. It’s extremely strong in real estate and jobs, but its second-hand goods section is also very active and trustworthy.
- Vendora.gr: The most modern classifieds site in Greece, launched to compete directly with the OLX/Wallapop model. It focuses on safety, offering an integrated payment system and courier delivery (“Vendora Buy & Ship”), which makes it young people’s favourite for electronics and fashion.
Car sales sites in Greece
Greece has a very diverse car market, with growing interest in small city cars and off-road (4×4) vehicles for the islands.
- Car.gr (Car section): This is where every car search in Greece begins and ends. It has over 200,000 active listings. The interface allows extremely detailed filters, including searching by CO2 emissions (important for local taxes).
- Autotrader.gr: A very well organised portal dedicated exclusively to vehicles. It’s heavily used by professional dealers and offers good tools for comparing prices and assessing the condition of used cars.
- Automarin.gr: Although it’s a big private dealer, their site works like a huge portal for certifiedused cars. An excellent source if you’re looking for a car with a warranty and a verified history, with thousands of vehicles in their own stock.
💡 Essential tips for the Greek market:
- KTEO: This is the Greek equivalent of the roadworthiness test. In ads, check whether it says “Πέρασε ΚΤΕΟ” (Perase KTEO) – meaning the technical inspection is up to date.
- Limba: Most sites (especially Car.gr and Vendora) have Englishversions. However, descriptions written by private individuals are usually in Greek, so you’ll need Google Translate.
- Annual taxes (Teli Kykloforias): In Greece the annual road tax depends heavily on CO2 emissions or the car’s age. Always check this, as taxes on older cars with big engines can be surprisingly high.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- Checking with a mechanic: In Greece it’s common (and accepted) practice to ask to take the car to a garage of your choice for a check before paying.
Classifieds sites in Ireland
The Irish market is one of the most active in Western Europe, but with one major peculiarity: people drive on the left, so cars are right-hand drive. In 2025 the market is dominated by two platforms belonging to the same media group (Distilled), but serving slightly different purposes.
Here are my recommendations for Ireland:
1. General classifieds sites in Ireland
- DoneDeal.ie: The absolute leader and the “institution” of classifieds in Ireland. You’ll find anything here, from electronics and furniture to farm machinery and real estate. It’s the platform every Irish person checks first when they want to buy or sell something.
- Adverts.ie: A community-focused platform for peer-to-peer sales. What makes it special is its user feedback/rating system, which is much more rigorous than DoneDeal’s. It’s the ideal place for electronics, video games and collectibles.
- Gumtree.ie: Although it has lost ground to the first two, Gumtree remains a popular alternative, especially for local services, jobs and free or very cheap household items.
2. Car sales sites in Ireland
Ireland has a very well regulated car market, and specialist sites are extremely advanced when it comes to vehicle history.
- Carzone.ie: Considered the “premium” platform for cars. Here you’ll mostly find listings from authorised dealers (SIMI dealers). The cars listed tend to be newer, with low mileage, and almost always come with a full warranty.
- DoneDeal Motors: Although it’s part of the general site, DoneDeal’s car section is the largest in Ireland by volume. Here you’ll find a huge mix of private sellers and small dealers. The ideal place if you’re looking for a bargain or an older car.
- CarsIreland.ie: A solid, very well structured portal that works closely with local car dealers. It’s appreciated for its clean interface and for offering video reviews and very clear technical details for most of the models listed.
💡 Essential tips for the Irish market:
- NCT (National Car Test): This is the equivalent of the roadworthiness test. Never buy a car without a valid NCT (“NCT valid”). In ads, the expiry date is usually stated clearly.
- Motor Tax: In Ireland road tax can be very expensive for cars with big engines registered before 2008. Always check the “Annual Tax” in the ad description.
- Verificarea Istoricului: Before buying, use sites such as Cartell.ie or MotorCheck.ie. You enter the registration number and find out whether the car has been written off, had its mileage clocked or has bank debts.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- SIMI sellers: If you buy from a dealer, look for the SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry) logo. It guarantees that the dealer follows a professional code of conduct.
Watch out for imports: Many cars in Ireland are imported from the UK. Because of Brexit the process has become more complicated, so check whether the car’s Irish import tax (VRT) has already been paid.
Classifieds sites in Iceland
The Icelandic market is unique because of the small population (about 380,000 people), which makes online platforms extremely centralised. In 2025, although dedicated sites exist, much of the second-hand trade has moved to very well organised Facebook groups.
Here are my recommendations for Iceland in 2025:
General classifieds sites in Iceland
- Bland.is: The “institution” of classifieds in Iceland. Although its design looks like it’s from the ’90s, it’s the most used site for everything: clothes, furniture, electronics, rentals and jobs. It has a very active forum section where Icelanders ask for advice on anything.
- Facebook Marketplace (and groups): In such a small community, Facebook is probably the most powerful tool. Look for the group “Brask og brall.is” – it’s legendary in Iceland, with almost half the country’s population as members. Absolutely anything is bought and sold there.
- Auskur.is: A newer and much more modern platform that tries to offer a cleaner and safer experience than Bland.is. Young people prefer it for gadgets and interior design items.
Car sales sites in Iceland
Iceland is “4×4 country”. Because of the climate and the roads, the car market is dominated by SUVs and all-wheel-drive cars.
- Bílasölur.is: The most important car portal. It works as an aggregator for almost all the car lots (dealers) in the country. If you want to see which cars professional dealers have available, this is the place to start.
- Bland.is (Vehicles): Bland’s car section is the main place for sales between private individuals. If you’re looking for a cheaper car or want to negotiate directly with the owner, this is where to look.
- Netbílar.is: A modern platform that makes buying and selling used cars easier, often offering inspection and valuation services. It’s very popular for the transparency of the sales process.
💡 Essential tips for the Icelandic market:
- Moneda: The currency used is the Icelandic króna (ISK). Prices look huge at first glance (e.g. 1,000,000 ISK ≈ 6,700 EUR), so watch the conversion.
- Rust and salt: Because of the oceanic climate and the salt used in winter, rust is enemy number 1 of cars in Iceland. Always check the chassis (underneath the car).
- Checking the plate (Samgöngustofa): You can check the history of any Icelandic car (technical inspections, mileage, mortgages) on the official website of the Transport Authority Samgöngustofa using the registration number.
- 4×4: If you plan to drive outside the capital, Reykjavik, in winter or on mountain roads (F-roads), an all-wheel-drive car isn’t a luxury but a necessity.
- Limba: The sites are in Icelandic, but absolutely all Icelanders speak perfect English. You can write to sellers directly in English.
Classifieds sites in Italy
In Italy the classifieds market is very well segmented. There’s an absolute leader for second-hand items, while the car market is dominated by huge European platforms with an extremely strong local presence.
Here are my recommendations for Italy in 2025:
General classifieds sites in Italy
- Subito.it: The perfect equivalent of OLX and the market leader in Italy. It has very well organised sections for everything: real estate, jobs, electronics and cars. Their “TuttoSubito” service (integrated payment and delivery) is extremely popular and safe for buyers.
- Wallapop.com: Although it’s a Spanish company, Wallapop has become incredibly popular in Italy in recent years. It’s the favourite app for clothes, gadgets and small items, with a very effective buyer protection system.
- eBay.it: Unlike in other countries where it has lost ground, in Italy eBay remains a reference platform for new and used items sold by professionals or collectors, offering extra security through PayPal.
2. Car sales sites in Italy
Italy has one of the biggest car markets in Europe, and its platforms offer very precise technical details and advanced filtering options.
- AutoScout24.it: The European giant and the first choice for anyone looking for a car in Italy. It has the largest number of listings and an excellent interface for comparing prices nationally and internationally.
- Automobile.it: Part of the eBay group and AutoScout24’s main competitor. It’s the favourite platform of professional car dealers (concessionari), offering cars with a verified history and often a warranty included.
- Subito Motori: Although it’s a section of the general site, the volume of cars on Subito is colossal. It’s the ideal place if you want to buy directly from private individuals (privati) and negotiate the price more easily than with a dealer.
💡 Essential tips for the Italian market:
- Mileage (Revisione): In Italy the mileage history is public. You can check the last technical inspection (Revisione) on the official portal Il Portale dell’Automobilista by entering the registration number (targa). You’ll see the car’s mileage at the last check.
- Uniproprietario: Look for this term in ads. It means the car has had only one owner, which in Italy is a big plus in terms of value and trust.
- Tagliandata: It means the car’s services are up to date, ideally backed by invoices or a service book.
- North vs. South: Cars from northern Italy (Milan, Turin) are often more expensive but better maintained bodywork-wise. Those from the south (Naples, Sicily) may have better prices, but the bodywork may show small scratches because of heavy traffic and strong sun.
- Passaggio di proprietà: Transferring ownership in Italy is fairly expensive (it can cost a few hundred euros, depending on engine power in kW). Check who pays this fee if you buy the car locally.
Classifieds sites in Kosovo
Kosovo’s online market is closely linked to Albania’s, but it has its own platforms and extremely active groups. A major advantage in Kosovo is that the official currency is the Euro, which makes comparing prices very easy.
Here are my recommendations for Kosovo:
General classifieds sites in Kosovo
- MerrJep.com: Without question the biggest classifieds site in Kosovo. It works exactly like OLX and is where everything is sold, from phones and appliances to building materials and animals.
- Mirlir.com: MerrJep’s main competitor. It has a somewhat more modern interface and is very popular for property ads and consumer goods. The Kosovar diaspora uses it a lot for transactions back home.
- Gjirafa.com: Although Gjirafa is the biggest video and search portal in Kosovo, its marketplace and classifieds section is extremely strong. It’s considered the Albanians’ “Google” and offers extra security for users.
Car sales sites in Kosovo
In Kosovo cars are a national passion, and the second-hand market is dominated by German brands (VW, Audi, Mercedes).
- MerrJep Auto (Kosovo): Although it’s part of the general site, the car section is huge. Most car lots (Auto Sallon) in and around Pristina list their entire stock here.
- AutoTreg.com: A platform dedicated exclusively to vehicle sales. Very useful for its specific search filters and for aggregating listings from professional dealers across Kosovo.
- Mirlir Auto: The car section of the Mirlir site. Many prefer it for the clarity of its photos and for ads posted directly by owners (private individuals).
💡 Essential tips for the Kosovo market:
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR), even though Kosovo isn’t officially in the eurozone yet. This removes any exchange-rate risk.
- RKS (registration plates): In ads, check whether the car has “RKS” (Republic of Kosovo) plates and whether it’s registered (“I regjistruar”). If it says “Me doganë të paguar”, it means customs duties have been paid but the car doesn’t have plates yet.
- Facebook Marketplace: In Kosovo, Facebook groups like “Shitje Blerje Kosovë” are incredibly active. Many cars appear there before being posted on the official sites.
- Limba: The sites are in Albanian. Here are a few technical terms:
- Vetura = Cars
- Viti = Year of manufacture
- Karburanti = Fuel (Nafte = Diesel, Benzinë = Petrol)
- Ndërruesi = Gearbox (Manual / Automatik)
- Vama: If you want to bring a car from Kosovo to Romania, remember that it’s a non-EU country, so you’ll have to pay customs duties and VAT when entering Romania.
Classifieds sites in Latvia
The Latvian market is very similar to those of the other Baltic countries, characterised by a high level of digitalisation and excellent transparency regarding public vehicle data. In 2025 one site still dominates the landscape, but modern alternatives focused on user experience have appeared.
Here are my recommendations for Latvia:
1. General classifieds sites in Latvia
- SS.com (formerly SS.lv): Without any exaggeration, the most important site in Latvia. Although its design is stuck in the ’90s, it’s where 90% of transactions happen. You’ll find anything here: from real estate and jobs to electronics and collectibles.
- PP.lv: The main modern alternative to SS.com. The interface is much more up to date and easier to use on mobile, and younger people prefer it for clothes, gadgets and accessories.
- Zip.lv: A classic, well-established classifieds portal. It’s widely used for property ads and local services, and it’s a good source for comparing prices when you can’t find something on the leading site.
2. Car sales sites in Latvia
Latvia has an extremely well-developed vehicle check system, and car sites use this data to give buyers peace of mind.
- SS.com – Transport: This site’s car section is the biggest car marketplace in the country. Almost every car put up for sale in Latvia, by a private seller or a dealer, ends up here.
- BRC.lv: BRC Autocentrs isn’t just a classifieds site but one of the biggest and oldest used-car dealers in the Baltics. Their website works like a huge portal where all cars are checked, come with a warranty and have a transparent history.
- Latauto.lv: A specialised portal that’s part of a wider Baltic network (related to Autoplius in Lithuania). Very useful for its advanced filters and for aggregating listings from professional car lots in Latvia.
💡 Essential tips for the Latvian market:
- e-CSDD (official check): This is the biggest advantage in Latvia. You can check the history of any locally registered car for free on the official website e-CSDD. You enter the registration number and find out the mileage at each inspection, the number of owners, whether the car has unpaid taxes and whether it passed the emissions test.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- Limba: The sites are available in Latvian and Russian. Since Latvia has a large bilingual population, descriptions may appear in both languages. Young people and dealers speak English very well.
- Registration plates: If the car has Latvian plates, checking by text message or through the CSDD app is extremely quick and offers a level of security few European countries have.
- Useful car terms:
- Pārdod = For sale
- Maina = Swap (open to offers)
- Tehniskā apskate = Technical inspection
- Servisa grāmatiņa = Service book
Classifieds sites in Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein’s market is one of the smallest and most exclusive in the world. With a population of about 40,000, the principality doesn’t have giant platforms of its own but is fully integrated into the digital ecosystem of Switzerland.
Still, there are a few important local peculiarities for 2025:
1. General classifieds sites (OLX-style)
Since Liechtenstein is in a customs union with Switzerland and uses the Swiss franc, most residents use Swiss platforms, filtering results by local postcode (9485–9498).
- Li-Dog.li: The main local classifieds platform in Liechtenstein. Although it looks simpler, it’s where locals post ads for household items, electronics or services specific to the principality.
- Tutti.ch: The most used free classifieds site in the region. Many Liechtenstein residents sell their items here, selecting the “St. Gallen” region or entering the Vaduz postcode so neighbours can find them.
- Liewo.li (Liechtensteiner Wochenzeitung): The digital version of the local Sunday newspaper. Its “Kleinanzeigen” (small ads) section is still highly respected for local property deals and valuables.
2. Car sales sites
Cars from Liechtenstein are highly sought after because they are usually fully specced and obsessively maintained. The black (FL) number plates are a symbol of quality on the second-hand market.
- AutoScout24.ch: The main platform. To see cars from Liechtenstein, select “FL” or “Liechtenstein” as the location instead of the Swiss cantons. Most dealers in Vaduz, Schaan or Triesen display their stock here.
- CarForYou.ch: A modern site widely used in the Rhine region (which includes Liechtenstein). It’s excellent for checking fair prices and viewing cars in 360°.
- Motor-Talk.li: Although it’s more of a news and community portal, it often links to local offers and ads from partner dealers in the principality.
💡 Essential tips for Liechtenstein:
- Moneda: The currency used is the Swiss franc (CHF). Prices reflect the area’s huge purchasing power, so expect prices above the European average, but for products in “as new” condition.
- “Ab MFK”: As in Switzerland, this term is crucial. It means the car has passed the mandatory technical inspection. In Liechtenstein inspections are carried out by the Motorfahrzeugkontrolle (MFK) in Vaduz and are extremely rigorous.
- Customs and taxes: Liechtenstein is part of the Swiss economic area but isn’t in the EU. If you bring a car from Liechtenstein to Romania, you’ll have to pay customs duties and VAT when entering the EU (Austrian or German customs), the process being identical to that for cars from Switzerland.
- Limba: The official language is Germana (the Alemannic dialect). All sites are in German, but almost everyone speaks English to a very high level.
- Registration plates: Liechtenstein plates (black with white letters) belong to the state and are tied to the person, not the car. If you buy a car there, you’ll need temporary export plates.
Classifieds sites in Lithuania
Lithuania’s market is the biggest and most dynamic of the three Baltic countries. It’s a major hub for second-hand cars in Europe, with very advanced digital systems for checking vehicles and transactions.
Here are my recommendations for Lithuania in 2025:
1. General classifieds sites in Lithuania
- Skelbiu.lt: Lithuania’s ultimate “OLX” and the most visited e-commerce site in the country. Absolutely anything is sold here, from clothes and electronics to farms and industrial machinery. It has a very well developed payment and delivery system.
- Alio.lt: One of the market veterans, very popular for property ads, services and household items. An excellent alternative to Skelbiu for finding better prices from private sellers.
- Skelbimai.lt: A simple and effective free classifieds portal, used especially for local ads, repair services and quick sales of small items.
2. Car sales sites in Lithuania
Lithuania is famous for its huge car markets (such as the one in Marijampolė or Kaunas), and its sites reflect this enormous volume of vehicles.
- Autoplius.lt: The most popular and advanced car site. It offers extremely detailed search filters and is integrated with the vehicle register database. Most listings already include damage history information.
- Autogidas.lt: Autoplius’s main rival. It’s highly appreciated for its huge volume of spare parts and is preferred by many private sellers for how easy it is to post ads.
- Autobilis.lt: A more modern platform with a clean interface, focused on photo quality and verified listings from professional dealers.
Classifieds sites in Luxembourg
Luxembourg’s market reflects the country’s wealth and international character. Although it’s a small country, purchasing power is huge, which means second-hand products (especially cars) are usually of exceptional quality, well maintained and fully loaded.
Here are my recommendations for Luxembourg in 2025:
1. General classifieds sites (OLX-style)
In Luxembourg, because of the large expat community, Facebook Marketplace is extremely strong, but there are also dedicated local platforms:
- Bazar.lu: The oldest and best-known general classifieds site in the Grand Duchy. You can find anything, from furniture and electronics to sports equipment. It’s available in French and German and is the locals’ point of reference.
- Editus.lu: Although it’s mainly a “yellow pages” (business directory), Editus has a very strong classifieds and services section. It’s the ideal place to look for professionals or home services.
- Vinted.lu: Luxembourg’s second-hand clothing market is fully integrated with those of France and Belgium through Vinted. It’s young residents’ favourite platform for fashion and luxury accessories at reduced prices.
2. Car sales sites
Luxembourg is probably the best place in Europe to buy used premium or luxury cars, thanks to favourable taxes and a culture of changing cars frequently.
- Luxauto.lu: The undisputed leader of the Luxembourg car market. The site is very modern, available in several languages and offers listings with excellent photo quality. Most cars here come directly from big dealers, with extended warranties.
- AutoScout24.lu: The local version of the European giant. Very useful because it often includes cars from the “Grande Région” (the border areas of France, Germany and Belgium), offering a much larger selection.
- Auto.lu: A solid portal dedicated exclusively to the local market. It’s appreciated for its simple filters and its section dedicated to commercial and utility vehicles.
💡 Essential tips for the Luxembourg market:
- Limba: Although French is the administrative language, most sites and sellers communicate without problems in English or German.
- SNCA (technical inspection): In Luxembourg, the institution responsible for technical inspections is the SNCA. A car that has recently passed inspection in Luxembourg is almost guaranteed to be in impeccable condition, as the rules are among the strictest in Europe.
- Service history: Most cars in Luxembourg are leased or have maintenance contracts, which means their entire service history has been carried out exclusively at official dealerships.
- Exportul: As Luxembourg is in the EU, exporting to Romania is very simple. The papers (Carte Grise) are clear, and getting export plates (“plaques d’export”) is a quick process at SNCA offices.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
Good to know: In Luxembourg you’ll find a very high concentration of new-generation electric and hybrid cars, as the state offers big subsidies and the charging infrastructure is excellent.
Classifieds sites in Malta
Malta’s market is small but extremely concentrated and active. Because of the size of the island, most transactions are based on proximity, and online is the main sales channel. A big advantage in Malta is that English is an official language, so browsing and communicating are very easy.
Here are my recommendations for Malta:
General classifieds sites in Malta
- Maltapark.com: The “institution” of classifieds in Malta. It’s by far the biggest and most used site, where you’ll find absolutely anything: from real estate and jobs to electronics, antiques and household items. If you want to buy or sell something in Malta, this is the first place to look.
- Facebook Marketplace (and local groups): In Malta, Facebook Marketplace is incredibly strong. Being a close-knit community, people often prefer to see the seller’s profile. Groups such as “Classifieds Malta” or “Buy and Sell Malta” are essential for finding good deals from private individuals.
- FreeAds.com.mt: A free classifieds platform that serves as a solid alternative to Maltapark. It’s well organised by category and useful for finding local services or furniture at lower prices.
Car sales sites in Malta
Malta has a very specific car market: people drive on the left, and imports from Japan and the UK are extremely popular.
- Motors.com.mt: The most important platform dedicated exclusively to vehicles. Here you’ll find the stock of most car dealers on the island, as well as ads from private sellers. The filters are very good and let you search by gearbox type (automatics are much sought after in Maltese traffic).
- AutoTrader.com.mt: The local version of the famous international brand. It’s a “premium” platform where listings are well vetted, preferred by those looking for newer, low-mileage cars with a dealer warranty.
- MaltaCarDemos.com: An excellent portal for seeing which cars are available in showrooms across the island. Very useful for comparing prices between different authorised dealers.
💡 Essential tips for the Maltese market:
- Right-hand drive: Malta was a British colony, so people drive on the left. All cars are right-hand drive (RHD). If you want to bring a car from there to Romania, type approval is difficult and expensive.
- VRT (Vehicle Roadworthiness Test): This is the equivalent of the roadworthiness test. Maltese cars must pass it periodically. Always check whether the ad says “VRT passed” or when it expires.
- Humidity and salt: Being an island in the middle of the Mediterranean, the air is very salty. Always check older cars for signs of rust, even if they look well maintained on the outside.
- Limba: The sites are in English, and communication with sellers is almost exclusively in English, which removes any language barrier.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- Registration plates: In Malta, number plates can give you clues. For example, those ending in the letter “Z” are usually for rental vehicles, while those with “Q” have a special import/tax status.
Classifieds sites in Moldova
In the Republic of Moldova the classifieds market is extremely centralised. One player dominates almost 90% of local traffic, but there are also specific alternatives that are very useful for price comparisons.
Here are my recommendations for Moldova:
1. General classifieds sites in Moldova
- 999.md: Without any exaggeration, it’s “Moldova’s internet”. It’s the most visited site in the country. You’ll find absolutely anything here, from flats and cars to food products from farmers. Its e-wallet system and integrated delivery make it extremely efficient.
- Makler.md: A long-standing brand, very popular especially in the north and south of the country and in the Transnistrian region. It’s widely used for services, construction and traditional property ads.
- Lalafo.md: A more modern, mobile-app-focused platform. Young people prefer it for clothes, accessories and small electronics, thanks to a very clean, Instagram-like visual interface.
2. Car sales sites in Moldova
Although 999.md holds the biggest car database, these dedicated platforms offer better filters and clearer technical information.
- 999.md (Auto): It’s still where ads from private individuals appear first. If you want to catch a “bargain” as soon as it’s posted, this is where to keep watch.
- Auto.md: A portal dedicated exclusively to the car market. It’s very well structured and preferred by many car lots and official dealers for showcasing their stock. It allows very detailed technical comparisons between models.
- PiataAuto.md: The most important editorial car portal, but it also has a high-quality classifieds section. It’s the ideal place to read reviews of models sold in Moldova and see cars in “as new” condition.
💡 Essential tips for the Moldovan market:
- Moneda: Although the official currency is the Moldovan leu (MDL), prices for cars and real estate are almost always shown in Euro (EUR). The final transaction is often done at that day’s bank rate.
- Limba: All the big sites are bilingual (Romanian and Russian). In ad descriptions you’ll often find a mix of terms from both languages.
- “Torg” (negotiation): In Moldova, haggling is an essential part of the culture. Look for “Torg” or “Negociabil”. If it says “Fără schimb”, it means the seller won’t accept a swap.
- Verificarea VIN: For cars registered in Moldova, you can check the history on the official website of the Public Services Agency or use the short SMS number offered by some platforms to find out whether the car has a lien (mortgage).
- Vama: If you’re from Romania and want to buy a car from Moldova, remember that the Republic of Moldova is not in the EU. You’ll have to pay customs duties and VAT when entering Romania.

Classifieds sites in the Netherlands
The Dutch market is one of the most digitalised and transparent in Europe. The Dutch have a very strong culture of reuse (second-hand), and their platforms are extremely efficient and well integrated with postal and payment verification services.
Here are my recommendations for classifieds sites in the Netherlands:
General classifieds sites in the Netherlands
- Marktplaats.nl: The absolute leader and the direct equivalent of OLX. Almost every second-hand transaction in the Netherlands happens here. It has a very secure payment and delivery system (“Gelijk Oversteken”) and is where you’ll find anything, from bicycles (lots of them!) to real estate and jobs.
- Tweedehands.net: A solid alternative to Marktplaats, with a large volume of ads in categories such as antiques, collectibles and furniture. It’s often preferred by those looking for a simpler interface.
- Vinted.nl: As in many other European countries, Vinted has taken over the fashion and accessories market. It’s extremely popular in the Netherlands, the number 1 platform for branded clothes at affordable prices, with an impeccable delivery system.
Car sales sites in the Netherlands
The Netherlands is an excellent market for second-hand cars thanks to its mileage verification system (NAP) and because cars are usually very well maintained on perfect roads.
- Gaspedaal.nl: This is probably the most useful tool for you. It’s an aggregator that simultaneously scans all the other big car sites (AutoTrack, AutoScout24, Marktplaats etc.) and shows you all the results in one place. It saves you hours of searching.
- AutoTrack.nl: One of the most respected car sites in the Netherlands. It focuses on quality and vetting listings, and is the favourite of dealers offering cars with a full history and warranty.
- ViaBOVAG.nl: The official platform of the Dutch car dealers’ association (BOVAG). If you buy from here, you can be sure the car comes with the BOVAG warranty (usually 12 months) and has passed strict technical checks. It’s the safest option, although prices may be slightly higher.
💡 Essential tips for the Dutch market:
- RDW check (OVI): In the Netherlands, vehicle data is public. You enter the registration number (Kenteken) on the official website RDW OVI and you can see for free: the date of first registration, when the inspection (APK) expires, whether the car is stolen or has unresolved recalls.
- NAP (Nationale Auto Pas): Always look for ads that mention “NAP Logisch”. This is a certification guaranteeing that the mileage history is genuine and hasn’t been tampered with.
- APK (Algemene Periodieke Keuring): This is the Dutch roadworthiness test. A car with a “new APK” (nieuwe APK) gives you peace of mind that it’s roadworthy.
- Limba: The Dutch speak exceptionally good English. You can contact almost any seller in English and they’ll reply without any problems.
- Bicicletele: If you’re in the Netherlands, Marktplaats is bicycle heaven. Still, always check that the frame number hasn’t been reported stolen (there are online registers for that too).
Classifieds sites in Poland
The Polish market is one of the biggest and most competitive in Central Europe. Poles have an extremely advanced digital ecosystem, dominated by local brands that have managed to hold their own against global giants.
Here are my recommendations for Poland in 2025:
1. General classifieds sites (OLX-style)
- OLX.pl: The absolute market leader. It works exactly as in Romania, being the main platform for everything: from phones and furniture to jobs. It’s extremely popular for its delivery system via InPost (Paczkomaty), which is the national standard in Poland.
- Allegro Lokalnie: Allegro is Poland’s “Amazon”. Allegro Lokalnie is their arm dedicated to ads between private individuals. It’s considered the safest place for second-hand shopping, as transactions are protected by the Allegro ecosystem.
- Sprzedajemy.pl: The main free alternative to OLX. It has a simple design and is widely used by private individuals who want to sell quickly without paying promotion fees. A good place to find more negotiable prices.
2. Car sales sites
Poland is a huge market for second-hand cars, being a central import point for vehicles from the rest of Europe.
- OTOMOTO.pl: The biggest and most respected car site in Poland. It’s part of the OLX group but much more specialised. Here you’ll find the most detailed listings, integrated vehicle history reports and a huge database of professional dealers.
- Allegro.pl (Motoryzacja): Allegro’s car section is massive. It’s the favourite place for car parts (the biggest selection in Europe), but also for selling cars, especially by big car lots offering warranties.
- Gratka.pl (Motoryzacja): A long-established classifieds portal, very popular for vans, trucks and agricultural machinery, as well as used cars. It’s often used by sellers in rural areas or smaller towns.
💡 Essential tips for the Polish market:
- Checking the history (Historia Pojazdu): Poland has an excellent free government service. If you have the registration number (numer rejestracyjny), the chassis number (VIN) and the date of first registration, you can see the car’s entire history on historiapojazdu.gov.pl.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Polish złoty (PLN). The rate is usually very close to the Romanian leu (1 PLN ≈ 1.15–1.20 RON).
- Paczkomaty (lockers): If you buy small items on OLX or Allegro, you’ll see the option of delivery to a locker (InPost) everywhere. It’s extremely cheap and efficient.
- Limba: Polish is the main language and, although many young people speak English, for car ads you’ll need Google Translate.
- Bezwypadkowy = Accident-free.
- Pierwszy właściciel = First owner.
- Serwisowany w ASO = Serviced at an official dealership.
Pro tip: If you’re looking for rare or cheap car parts, Allegro.pl is unbeatable across Europe, with many Romanians ordering parts from there through international courier companies.
Classifieds sites in Portugal
In Portugal the classifieds market is very well structured, split between an absolute leader (OLX) and modern platforms that put great emphasis on transaction security and sustainability.
Here are my recommendations for Portugal in 2025:
1. General classifieds sites (OLX-style)
- OLX.pt: The undisputed market leader. In Portugal, OLX is used for everything: from real estate and jobs to household items. It has a very efficient integrated delivery system through CTT (Portuguese Post).
- CustoJusto.pt: OLX’s main competitor. It has a simpler interface and is very popular for regional ads. Many users who want to avoid OLX’s promotion fees post here, so you can find better prices.
- Vinted.pt: It has become the number 1 platform for fashion and accessories in Portugal. It’s widely used for second-hand clothes, toys and small decorative items, with a very solid buyer protection system.
2. Car sales sites
The Portuguese car market is marked by fairly high registration taxes (ISV), which makes used car prices higher than in the rest of Europe, but cars are usually well maintained.
- Standvirtual.com: The “gold standard” for car sales in Portugal. Owned by the same group as OLX, it’s preferred by professional dealers. Listings are extremely detailed, with lots of photos and technical checks included.
- Auto.sapo.pt: Part of the giant SAPO portal (the biggest internet portal in Portugal). It’s a very fast, well-structured site offering a wide range of cars from dealers across the country.
- PiscaPisca.pt: A newer but very strong player that puts great emphasis on transparency. It works in partnership with banks and financial institutions, making it ideal if you’re looking for a car with clear financing options or expert-checked cars.
💡 Essential tips for the Portuguese market:
- IPO (Inspeção Periódica Obrigatória): This is the Portuguese roadworthiness test. In ads, check whether the car has “IPO em dia” (inspection up to date). The due date is usually the anniversary of the car’s first registration.
- IUC (Imposto Único de Circulação): The annual road tax. Watch out: cars registered after July 2007 pay a much higher IUC than older ones. Always check the amount of this tax in the ad description.
- Imported cars: You’ll see many ads marked “Importado”. These cars were brought in from other countries (e.g. Germany, Belgium) and registered in Portugal. Check that the import taxes (ISV) have been paid in full.
- Checking the plate (Matrícula): You can check the damage history or whether the car has been seized on the official website of Automóvel Online or through private services that provide reports based on the registration number.
- Limba: Although Portuguese is the main language, most dealers and people in the big cities (Lisbon, Porto, Algarve) speak English very well.
Classifieds sites in Romania
General classifieds sites (electronics, real estate, cars)
Classifieds sites in Russia
The Russian market is one of the biggest and most digitalised in the world, dominated by local tech giants (such as Yandex and VK). In 2025, despite the specific economic context, classifieds platforms operate at an impressive technological level, with video checks and integrated delivery systems to almost anywhere in the country.
Here are my recommendations for Russia:
Classifieds sites in Russia
- Avito.ru: Without any exaggeration, the biggest classifieds platform in the world by traffic volume. It’s the 1:1 equivalent of OLX, but much more advanced. You’ll find anything, from flats and cars to services and collectibles. It has its own delivery system (“Avito Dostavka”) that secures payment.
- Yula.ru (Юла): Owned by the VK group (formerly Mail.ru). Avito’s main competitor, very popular as a mobile app. It’s integrated directly with the VKontakte social network, which makes communication and verifying sellers’ identities easier.
- Gde.ru: A more traditional free classifieds platform, useful for those looking for offers in more remote regions or in industrial and service categories where competition on Avito is too high.
Car sales sites in Russia
In 2025 the Russian car market is dominated by Chinese brands and the phenomenon of “parallel imports”, and the sites reflect this through very detailed filters.
- Auto.ru: Owned by the giant Yandex. It’s considered the most professional car platform. It offers an extremely rigorous verification system called “ProAuto”, where you can see the car’s entire history, accidents and service records. It has a top mobile app with 360° video inspections.
- Drom.ru: The undisputed leader in eastern Russia (the Urals, Siberia, the Far East). It’s famous for its huge database of Asian cars (right- or left-hand drive) and for the most active car forum community in the country.
- Avito Auto: Although it’s part of the general site, Avito’s car section is huge and preferred by private individuals for direct sales. Many small dealers post exclusively here to avoid Auto.ru’s higher fees.
💡 Essential information for the Russian market:
- Moneda: The currency used is the Rouble (RUB). In 2025 the exchange rate is volatile, so prices can change quickly. Many private sellers think in dollars or yuan when negotiating.
- Verificarea VIN: In Russia, checking a car’s history is almost mandatory. Services such as Autoteka (integrated into Avito) or ProAuto (on Auto.ru) provide full reports based on the chassis or registration number.
- Parallel imports: You’ll see many ads marked as “new cars” brought in through parallel imports (without the manufacturer’s official warranty, but with a dealer warranty).
- Limba: All sites are exclusively in Russian. You’ll need your browser’s automatic translation. A useful term: “Bez probega po RF” (no mileage in Russia), meaning the car has been recently imported.
- Payments: Visa/Mastercard cards issued outside Russia don’t work on these platforms for paying for promotion or delivery services.
Classifieds sites in Serbia
The Serbian market is very large and extremely active, being the economic centre of the Western Balkans. Although it isn’t an EU member, Serbia has a very well developed digital ecosystem, with platforms handling huge volumes of ads every day.
Here are my recommendations for Serbia in 2025:
General classifieds sites in Serbia
- KupujemProdajem.com: The absolute “king” of classifieds in Serbia. It’s the site where you’ll find anything, from phones and furniture to real estate and jobs. It has a very well developed rating system, and users with many positive reviews are considered extremely trustworthy.
- HaloOglasi.com: A legendary brand in Serbia. It’s extremely strong in real estate and professional services, but its second-hand goods section is also very busy and reliable.
- Limundo.com / Kupindo.com: Limundo is the Serbian version of eBay (auctions), and Kupindo is their platform for fixed-price sales. They’re considered very safe platforms thanks to their strict user verification system.
Car sales sites in Serbia
In Serbia the car is a status symbol, and the second-hand car market is dominated by German, French and Italian brands.
- PolovniAutomobili.com: The biggest, best-known and most advanced car site in the country. Most cars in Serbia are listed here, whether from dealers (Autoplac) or private individuals. It offers excellent guides, history checks and very precise filters.
- MojAuto.rs: Polovni Automobili’s main competitor. It has a huge database and is very popular for quick ads from private individuals. A good place to compare prices and find deals outside Belgrade.
- Sasomange.rs: A newer marketplace that has grown quickly, investing heavily in its car section. It has a modern interface and tries to offer a more streamlined experience than the traditional sites.
💡 Essential tips for the Serbian market:
- Moneda: The official currency is the Serbian dinar (RSD), but note: prices for cars and real estate are shown almost exclusively in Euro (EUR). Payment is often made in dinars at the day’s rate or as agreed.
- Serbia is NOT in the EU: This is the most important point for Romanians. If you buy a car from Serbia, you’ll have to pay customs duties and VAT (19%) when entering Romania. The process is identical to that for cars brought from Switzerland or the USA.
- Limba: Both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets are used. Most sites let you browse in the Latin alphabet, which is easy for Romanians to read. Young people speak very good English.
- Verificarea Istoricului: Serbs pay close attention to a car’s history. Many ads on Polovni Automobili already have a CarVertical report attached. You can also check the registration number to see whether the car is registered on the government portal e-Uprava.
- Useful terms:
- Na prodaju = For sale
- Fiksna cena = Fixed price (non-negotiable)
- Registrovan do = Registered until (expiry date of the Serbian inspection)
- Prvi vlasnik = First owner
Classifieds sites in Slovakia
The Slovak market is closely linked to the Czech one, but it has a big advantage for us: it uses the Euro, which makes calculations and payments much simpler. Slovaks have very well organised platforms where vehicle history transparency and transaction safety are priorities.
Here are my recommendations for Slovakia:
1. General classifieds sites in Slovakia
- Bazos.sk: The undisputed market leader and the most visited classifieds site in Slovakia. It has a minimalist, very fast design. It’s where you’ll find anything, from phones and furniture to agricultural machinery. Phone number verification is mandatory, which reduces fraud.
- Bazar.sk: Bazos’s main competitor. It has a more modern interface and is very well organised by category. It’s very popular for home, garden and clothing items.
- Odruky.sk: A newer site focused on safe, local transactions. A good alternative for finding household items or electronics from private individuals who prefer a less crowded platform.
2. Car sales sites in Slovakia
Slovakia is one of the biggest car producers per capita in the world, so the local car market is very rich, with lots of used cars in excellent condition.
- Autobazar.eu: The biggest and most comprehensive car portal in Slovakia. It isn’t limited to cars, but has huge sections for trucks, car parts, motorbikes and boats. It offers excellent tools for checking the VIN and history directly in the listing.
- Autobazar.sk: A very popular portal, preferred by professional dealers. The interface is very clean, and the mobile app is considered one of the best for car searches in the region.
- Auto.Bazos.sk: Although it’s a section of the general site, the volume of cars here is colossal. It’s where to look if you want to buy directly from private individuals (súkromná inzercia), where prices are often more negotiable.
💡 Essential tips for the Slovak market:
- Moneda: The currency used is the Euro (EUR).
- Checking the history (ODO-Pass): Slovakia is very strict about mileage tampering. Look for ads that mention “ODO-Pass”. This is an official certificate guaranteeing that the mileage history has been checked in the national database.
- KO (Kontrola Originality): When you buy a car from Slovakia, ask for the “Kontrola Originality” certificate. It certifies that the car isn’t stolen, its chassis numbers haven’t been altered and its structural integrity is fine.
- Limba: Slovak is very similar to Czech. Most dealers speak English or German, and you can get by fairly well even in Romanian if you speak slowly, as the languages share some common roots in regional technical vocabulary.
- Exportul: As Slovakia is in the EU, the export procedure is simple. You’ll need export plates (with a yellow or red stripe) and to deregister the car from Slovak records for export.
Classifieds sites in Slovenia
Slovenia’s market is small but extremely well organised and efficient. Because it’s a transit country between Central Europe and the Balkans, you’ll find lots of well-maintained cars, often with a full service history.
General classifieds sites in Slovenia
- Bolha.com: It’s Slovenia’s “OLX” and the absolute market leader. Almost every second-hand transaction starts here. It’s extremely well structured, from real estate and jobs to electronics and collectibles.
- Salamon.si: A site with a very long tradition (originating from the famous classifieds newspaper Salamonov oglasnik). It’s very popular for property ads, services and agricultural machinery.
- Oglasnik.si: A simpler but very effective alternative for quick local ads. It’s often used by private individuals who want to sell products without going through Bolha’s more complex processes.
Car sales sites in Slovenia
In Slovenia the car market is dominated by a single giant portal, the rest being platforms focused on technical checks.
- Avto.net: The undisputed “king” of the Slovenian car market. Over 90% of the cars for sale in the country are listed here. The interface hasn’t changed in years (table style), but it’s extremely fast and offers very precise technical filters.
- DoberAvto.si: This is the official platform backed by AMZS (the Slovenian Automobile Club). It focuses on transparency and safety. The cars listed here often have their history checked automatically, and the platform uses a “traffic light” system to indicate technical condition and price fairness.
- Bolha – Avto-Moto: Bolha’s car section is the second-largest car database. It’s the favourite of many private sellers and is useful for finding spare parts or car accessories you won’t find on specialist sites.
💡 Essential tips for Slovenia:
- AMZS: If you buy a car from Slovenia, it’s a good idea to go to an AMZS centre for a technical check before buying. They’re extremely rigorous and professional.
- E-Vinjeta: In Slovenia the motorway vignette is digital. When you buy a car, check whether it’s already registered in the system (the vignette is linked to the registration number).
- Moneda: The Euro (EUR) has been used since 2007, so you don’t have any hassle with conversions.
- Limba: Slovene is similar to Croatian, but most sellers speak excellent English or German, so you’ll communicate easily with them.
- Useful car terms:
- Rabljena vozila = Used vehicles.
- Karambolirano = Damaged (avoid these ads unless you’re a mechanic).
- Prvi lastnik = First owner.
- Servisna knjiga = Service book.
Classifieds sites in Spain
In Spain the classifieds market is one of the most dynamic in Europe, marked by a massive shift to mobile apps. Spaniards are very active in the circular (second-hand) economy, and their platforms are extremely intuitive and safe.
Here are my recommendations for Spain in 2025:
Classifieds sites in Spain
- Wallapop.com: The absolute leader and Spain’s “phenomenon”. Although it started as a proximity-based mobile app, it’s now the biggest general classifieds platform. It has an integrated payment and delivery system called “Wallapop Envíos”, which is extremely popular and safe.
- Milanuncios.com: The market “veteran” and the closest to OLX in format. Owned by the Adevinta group, it has a huge volume of ads in categories such as real estate, jobs, services and cars. It’s the favourite for more traditional ads and transactions outside the big cities.
- Vinted.es: Although it specialises in clothes and accessories, in Spain it has become the number 1 platform for fashion. If you’re looking for branded clothes, accessories or children’s items at great prices, Vinted is the main destination.
Car sales sites in Spain
The Spanish car market is very well regulated, and the sites offer excellent tools for checking vehicles.
- Coches.net: The biggest and most important car portal in Spain. You’ll find everything here, from used cars to new vehicles and leasing. The interface is very professional, and the filters let you search by environmental label (DGT), a critical factor in Spanish cities.
- Autocasion.com: Coches.net’s main rival. It’s known for the quality of its dealer listings and for the very detailed technical reviews it offers for each model. An excellent site for comparing offers from authorised car lots.
- Clicars.com: It represents the “new generation” of car sales. It isn’t a classic classifieds site but an online shop for used, reconditioned and certifiedcars. They buy the cars, check them on 320 points and sell them with a warranty and the option to return the car within 15 days. It’s the safest option on the market.
💡 Essential tips for the Spanish market:
- Environmental label (Distintivo Ambiental DGT): In Spain it’s crucial to check which label the car has (B, C, ECO or 0). Big cities like Madrid or Barcelona have severe traffic restrictions (ZBE) based on these labels.
- Informe DGT: Before buying a car, ask for an “Informe de vehículo” from the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). It costs about 8 euros and shows whether the car has unpaid fines, is under seizure or has passed its inspection (ITV).
- ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos): The equivalent of the Romanian roadworthiness test. Always check whether the ad says “ITV al día” (ITV up to date).
- Cambio de nombre: Transferring ownership in Spain involves paying a tax (Impuesto de Transmisiones Patrimoniales) that varies between 4% and 8% of the car’s value, depending on the region (Comunidad Autónoma).
- Limba: Although Spanish (Castellano) is the main language, in regions such as Catalonia, the Basque Country or Galicia you may find bilingual ads. Most sellers in tourist areas speak English.
Classifieds sites in Sweden
The Swedish market is one of the most digitalised and safe in the world. Swedes value transparency highly, and most platforms are integrated with identity verification systems.
General classifieds sites in Sweden
- Blocket.se: The ultimate classifieds institution in Sweden. There’s nothing to compare it with; almost everything bought or sold in Sweden goes through Blocket. It’s very secure (often requiring BankID for login) and covers everything, from furniture to jobs.
- Tradera.com: Formerly owned by eBay, it’s the biggest auction platform in Sweden. It’s preferred for clothes, electronics, collectibles and antiques. The rating system is extremely rigorous, which makes it very safe.
- Sellpy.se: A more modern concept, very popular in 2025. It’s “assisted second-hand” – people send their items to Sellpy, and the platform takes care of photos, descriptions and sales. Ideal if you’re looking for quality clothes or home items.
Car sales sites in Sweden
Sweden is an excellent market for second-hand cars thanks to rigorous maintenance (good roads and timely servicing), although road salt in winter can be a wear factor.
- Bytbil.com: The biggest site specialising exclusively in vehicles (cars, motorbikes, motorhomes). It mainly works with authorised dealers, which gives buyers extra security regarding warranty and technical condition.
- Kvdcars.com (KVD): The biggest car auction platform in Sweden. All cars sold here go through a very detailed independent technical test (over 170 points), and the report is public. It’s the favourite place for cars from leasing or company fleets.
- Wayke.se: A newer, very modern platform built to make buying a car as simple as possible. The interface is excellent, the photos are high quality, and the filters let you search by powertrain type (very useful for electric cars, which are extremely common in Sweden).
💡 Essential tips for the Swedish market:
- Car.info: This is your best friend. In Sweden, vehicle data is public. You enter the registration number (Reg-nr) on Car.info and you’ll see absolutely everything: how many owners it has had, the mileage at each technical inspection, whether it has been in an accident and its estimated price.
- Moneda: The currency used is the Swedish krona (SEK). (Roughly 11 SEK ≈ 1 EUR).
- Swish: Almost all transactions between private individuals are done through the Swishapp. If you don’t have a Swedish bank account, cash payment may sometimes be refused, as Sweden is almost “cashless”.
- Useful car terms:
- Miltal = Mileage (Note: 1 Swedish mil = 10 km! If it says 15,000 mil, the car has 150,000 km).
- Besiktigad = Inspected (roadworthiness test done).
- Dragkrok = Tow bar (much sought after by Swedes).
Classifieds sites in Turkey
The Turkish market is one of the biggest and most dynamic in the region. Turks are extremely active in online commerce, and their platforms are very technologically advanced, offering rigorous checks and impressive technical details.
1. General classifieds sites in Turkey
In Turkey the concept of “classifieds” is dominated by one huge name, but there are also modern alternatives based on mobile apps.
- Sahibinden.com: Probably one of the biggest classifieds sites in the world, not just in Turkey. The name means “from the owner”. It’s the platform where you’ll find absolutely anything: from planes and yachts to clothes, electronics and real estate. It’s the “bible” of trade between private individuals in Turkey.
- Letgo.com.tr: Very popular for quick, local transactions. In Turkey, Letgo recently merged with the car platform Otoplus, so it’s an excellent place for household items, electronics and, more recently, checked cars.
- Dolap.com: Although it started as an app for second-hand clothes, it has become a huge market for small electronics, accessories and home products. It’s very popular with young people thanks to its secure payment system.
2. Car sales sites in Turkey
The Turkish car market is very specific because of high taxes, so sites put great emphasis on the condition of the bodywork (whether it has been repainted or not).
- Arabam.com: The main rival to Sahibinden’s car section. It’s extremely detailed and offers a service called “Trink sat!” (Sell now), where they value and buy your car on the spot. The ideal place to see real market prices.
- VavaCars (vava.cars): A modern platform focused on used but checked and certifiedcars. They buy cars, inspect them on over 200 points, recondition them and sell them with a warranty. It’s much safer than buying from an unknown private individual.
- Sahibinden – Vasıta: Sahibinden’s vehicle section deserves a separate mention because it’s the gold standard. Most dealers (called “Galeri” in Turkey) have their own shop pages here.
💡 Essential information for Turkey:
- Moneda: Prices are in Turkish lira (TRY). Watch out for volatility: prices in ads can change from one day to the next.
- The “Tramer” report: In Turkey, accidents are recorded in a centralised system called Tramer. In almost every car ad you’ll see “Hasar Kaydı” (damage record) mentioned. You can check the damage history by sending an SMS with the registration number to a short number (5664), a service available locally.
- Expert check (Ekspertiz): By tradition, it’s a must to take the car to an “Ekspertiz” centre before buying. They give you a written report on the engine, transmission and, most importantly, which body panels have been painted (Boyalı) or replaced (Değişen).
- Limba: The sites are in Turkish. A few key terms:
- Satılık = For sale
- Fiyat = Price
- Takaslı = Swaps accepted
- Hatasız/Boyasız = No defects / No painted panels (the most sought after).
Classifieds sites in Ukraine
In Ukraine the classifieds market is extremely digitalised and well developed, even in the current context. The biggest platforms offer advanced seller verification and payment protection systems.
1. General classifieds sites in Ukraine
- OLX.ua: Without doubt the most used platform in the country. In 2025 it remains the main place for everything, from electronics and clothes to jobs. The “OLX Delivery” system (delivery through the Nova Poshta postal service) is the gold standard for transaction safety.
- Izi.ua: A more modern platform, nicknamed the “hypermarket of things”. It’s very popular with young people, with a much airier interface than OLX and a very transparent review system.
- Besplatka.ua: A classic classifieds site, very useful for services, industrial products or ads from smaller towns. Although the interface is more traditional, the volume of ads is considerable.
Car sales sites in Ukraine
In 2025 the Ukrainian car market is marked by massive interest in electric cars and imported vehicles.
- Auto.ria.com: The car market leader. What makes it special is its rigorous verification system: most cars have their VIN checked directly in the listing, and their team can go out and inspect the car for you (the “Inspector RIA” service).
- RST.ua: Auto.ria’s main competitor. It looks more “old-school”, but private sellers prefer it because posting ads is often cheaper or free. The ideal place to find lower prices (bargains).
- OLX Auto (Transport): OLX’s car section is huge in Ukraine. Many sellers who don’t want to pay the fees on specialist sites (RIA/RST) post here. Excellent for spare parts and older cars.
💡 Important information for the Ukrainian market
- Limba: Most sites now let you switch between Ukrainian and Russian. In 2025 the state language (Ukrainian) is set as the default on all official platforms.
- Moneda: Prices are shown in Hryvnia (UAH), but for cars almost everyone calculates the final price in Dollars (USD).
- Livrarea: The postal service Nova Poshta (Нова Пошта) is integrated into almost all platforms. If you buy something small, look for the “OLX Delivery” option so you don’t send money in advance to strangers.
- Verificarea VIN: On Auto.ria, look for ads with the “Перевірений VIN” (verified VIN) label to see the real mileage history and any accidents.
Classifieds sites in Hungary
The Hungarian market is one of the most mature in the region, with very well organised platforms and integrated delivery systems (such as Foxpost, the equivalent of easybox in Romania).
General classifieds sites in Hungary
Hungary hasn’t had OLX for a few years now; it was absorbed or replaced by strong local players:
- Jófogás.hu: The undisputed leader and the direct equivalent of OLX. You’ll find absolutely anything here, from real estate and jobs to clothes and electronics. It’s very popular for its safe “Háztól-házig” (door-to-door) delivery system.
- Vatera.hu: Although it started as an auction site (eBay-style), today it mostly works as a fixed-price marketplace. It’s considered safer for valuables or electronics, as sellers have detailed ratings.
- Startapró.hu: A very simple and effective free classifieds platform. It’s heavily used for services, animal sales, tools and agricultural products.
Car sales sites in Hungary
Hungary has some of the most advanced car portals in Central Europe, and it’s an important source of cars for buyers from Romania too.
- Használtautó.hu: The “giant” of the Hungarian car market. Almost every car for sale in the country is posted here. The interface is very detailed, allowing searches by extremely specific equipment.
- Kocsi.hu: Használtautó’s main rival. It has a more modern interface, loads very quickly and is preferred by many big car dealers for the clarity of its photos and technical details.
- Jóautók.hu: This site focuses on quality and safety. It mainly lists cars from vetted dealers with a guaranteed history. The ideal place if you want to avoid cars with dubious mileage or hidden problems.
💡 Useful tips for Hungary:
- Moneda: Prices are shown in Forints (HUF). For a quick conversion to euros, you can drop the last two zeros and divide by 4 (roughly), but it’s best to check the current rate, as the forint can be volatile.
- Checking the history (JSZP): In Hungary you can check the history of any car with Hungarian plates through the government system JSZP, using the registration number. Many ads on Használtautó already link to this report.
- Limba: Although Hungarian is difficult, sites such as Használtautó sometimes have basic versions in German or English, but the safest option is to use Google Chrome’s automatic translation.
- Useful term: In car ads, “Érvényes magyar okmányokkal” means the car has valid Hungarian papers, which makes exporting much easier.
